PAT Testing

From £80.00

Portable appliance testing involves checking electrical equipment within an agreed scope. Your equipment types, quantities and operating hours help plan the work.

YOUR SERVICE, EXPLAINED

What is PAT Testing?

Portable appliance testing is the common name for the inspection and, where appropriate, electrical testing of appliances. Visual examination is an important part of the process because damage to a plug, lead or casing may reveal a problem that a test alone would not identify. The checks should be suitable for the equipment and how it is used.

What does the service cover?

The agreed visit can include identifying items, checking accessible plugs and cables and carrying out applicable tests. Some items may need visual inspection only; others require additional testing. The technician records the results so you can distinguish tested equipment from inaccessible or excluded items. Fixed wiring inspection is a separate EICR service.

Who is this service for?

Businesses, landlords, letting agents and organisations use appliance inspection programmes to help manage equipment safely. There is no universal legal rule that every appliance must undergo an annual PAT test. An appropriate schedule depends on the equipment, its environment, use and relevant duties. Tell us whether the location is a home, office, shop or other workplace.

How to prepare

Estimate the number of items and tell us about unusual equipment or difficult access. Gather items where practical and make sockets and plugs reachable. Testing may require appliances to be disconnected, so plan around critical equipment and save computer work beforehand. Explain any site rules and arrange permission to access occupied rooms.

Your results and next steps

The results help you identify equipment that can remain in service and items needing attention. Unsafe equipment should be taken out of use and referred for suitable repair or replacement. Keep the results with your maintenance records and use them to inform future checks. A label alone should not replace ongoing attention to visible damage.

From £80

Arrange your PAT Testing

£80 covers up to 10 items, then £5 for each additional item.

HELPFUL ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Is annual PAT testing compulsory?

No universal annual interval applies. Inspection and testing should follow a suitable risk-based maintenance approach, taking account of the environment and type of equipment.

Do new appliances need testing?

New equipment is normally expected to be supplied safely. A visual check for damage is sensible; the wider maintenance approach determines any further action.

Can you test a whole office?

Provide the approximate item count, location and any equipment that cannot be switched off. We can then agree an appropriate visit scope.

How much does it cost?

PAT testing starts from £80. The number and type of items and site arrangements determine the final scope and price.
